I have always been in touch with nature. There is so much to see, it's endless. I try to convey what I see in my paintings, drawings and ceramic pieces. In them you see my thoughts, my pain and my joy!
Nan Kirstein was born in Philadelphia, PA. Her childhood years were spent in Bucks County on a small farm. Being an artist was her dream, always drawing. And so it was that in 1953 she graduated from "The Philadelphia Museum School of Art (now the University of the Arts).
Nan met her future husband there and together they pursued their careers. Carl was a technical illustrator and Nan was a free-lance illustrator for childrens publications.
After raising 2 children, Nan, discovered clay and maintained a pottery studio for 30 years. But getting back to painting was her "retirement" goal. Returning to Bucks County in 1984 and to the family farm, she continued making pottery.
As the old century ended and the new one began, she has been spending equal times at the two art forms she loves. One-of-a-kind ceramic pieces and abstract painting. Still going strong at 83!
